The Essential Guide to Safe Travel-Training for Children with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities

For those growing up with an intellectual disability or autism, comfortable, safe and independent travel will prove an invaluable life skill. It also brings a liberating sense of self-suffiency and reassurance of equality within society. Psychologist and mobility specialist Dr Desiree Gallimore’s straightforward five-step system will guide parents and professionals through successful training for children of any age and ability. Focusing on understanding each child’s individual goals and challenges, it gives you the ‘ingredients’ needed to fully prepare for each journey in advance, and shows how to judge when to step back and let the child progress alone.

The Everyday Autism Series

These books give an insight into the real experiences, challenges and needs of children with autism. Author Monique Cain, mother to two children on the autism spectrum, created the series to give a voice to her daughter Madi and to explain why her daughter’s behaviour might be a little unusual. Originally a means to help Madi’s teachers and classmates interact and understand Madi better, the reaction to the books has been so positive and widely requested that the series is now available to schools, kindergartens and the wider public.
