Millions of people face visible or hidden challenges daily due to their health conditions and  disabilities, where being supported can make all the difference.

Without support, people may experience loss of independence, increased stress, reduced autonomy, delayed care, unsafe or isolating experiences, and emotional exhaustion, just to name a few.

But asking for support isn’t always simple, and the help that is received isn’t always effective or suitable.

Even when others are aware of someone’s health conditions or disabilities, support must be led by the individual. It’s personal and shaped by a person’s unique needs, not by assumptions. That’s why being able to clearly and effectively communicate is essential.

Verbal communication alone may not be enough, especially when someone is under pressure to remember details, when it’s loud, noisy, or dark, when they can’t speak or repeat themselves, or when other barriers prevent them from being seen, heard, and understood.

HiAlert helps solve this problem. Using their smartphone, people with health conditions and disabilities can pull up the new HiAlert app to show a clear visual aid with pre-filled information that effectively communicates their needs and helps them ask for support when it matters most.

The idea for HiAlert started from founder Grace’s own experience, when she faced a deeply distressing situation where she was misunderstood, stripped of autonomy and not taken seriously.

That experience led her to realise that her experience wasn’t just personal, it’s universal and shared by people with health conditions and disabilities all around the world.

She realised something needed to change, and that people with health conditions and disabilities needed a way to empower themselves to be understood individually and in a way that collectively benefits everyone living with health conditions or disabilities to receive the support they need.

This led to the creation of HiAlert. The app is now available on the App Store and Google Play for use in everyday life, healthcare, travel, social environments, education settings, workplaces and more.

Anyone with challenges due to their health conditions or disabilities can download HiAlert, add their details, and use it to show others what they need, when they need to.

“HiAlert doesn’t fix everything, but it helps carry some of the weight,” Grace said.
