David Pocock is the new independent senator for the ACT who has gained a reputation for advancing issues around climate and social justice. In his first speech to the Senate, he made the point that the Auslan interpreter was not in the chamber with him and how this characterised the difference between accessibility and inclusion. It also highlighted that in 2022 people are still coming up against ingrained things of ‘this is how we’ve done it.’
He has strong views on the accessibility of the NDIS and getting people with disability into leadership roles.
